Self Defense Fighting

Self Defense Fighting The ideal form of self defense is to be able to avoid fighting altogether. You should acknowledge that no matter how well trained you are there is a very good likelihood that you will suffer some damage in a fight. The longer you are in a fight the higher the likelihood of damage. Therefore self defense fighting should be very fast and very effective. Your goal should be to end a fight in under 2 seconds. If it takes longer than 2 seconds you have probably done something wrong. Self defense fighting immediately brings to mind martial arts of some sort. But where do you go from there? The subject of martial arts involves hundreds of countries, thousands of years and millions of reasons to learn it. Yet throughout all this variety, there are basic commonalities that bring the subject into sharp focus.

“My Kung Fu is better than your Kung Fu If someone spends years and years in a certain style of martial arts they of course will have the opinion that there’s is best. Why would you be working so hard at something that was inferior? So if you ask this person “what style of self defense should I take?” Guess what they will tell you. So even before you go around asking, you need to figure out your own priorities. Your own reasons for starting. Once you get into the training, you will have more reasons and your priorities will shift around. But because you started with the knowledge of what’s important to you personally, you’ll find you have set yourself on the right path that will not only let you learn easier but you will enjoy it immensely.

I Don’t Want to Train, I Just Want Learn Something Quick This is where some advanced insight can really pay off. Since there’s some self defense fighting techniques that might take you days to get down and then you still might not feel comfortable with them, they won’t be dependable for you at all. But there are self defense fighting techniques that you can learn easily in one day. You might make a particular technique your favorite tool. It may not be fancy but it’s something you’ll always have and you can rely on it because you’re good at it. Martial arts techniques are like different tools in your tool box. You pick out the tools you need for the job. But if all you have in your box is a hammer, all problems look like nails. Understanding that different martial arts use different tools to solve different problems in different ways, will give you a great respect for all martial arts and the people teaching and learning. So have in your head what you want to get out of it and what seems like it would be fun to know and be able to do. You might start out wanting to only get the quick and dirty for the day, but you might just love it and want to get really good at it . . . because it’s fun.
